Content Londoner Pat (Cassie McFarlane) longs for marriage and to settle down into a life imbued with middle-class trimmings.  Del (Victor Romero) aspires to much more than his world offers.  When the pair meet, fall in love, and move in together the experiences of their lives together force them to examine their assumptions of each other, their expectations, and desires.

Burning An Illusion is the pioneering first feature from Menelik Shabazz and is a landmark for black British cinema and marked the coming of age for Black British cinema. A film about transformation and identity, this sensitive and entertaining love story traces the emotional and political growth of a young Black couple in Thatcher's London.  BFI
