Apple Espalier Pruning Workshop – Heritage Gardening Skills

Training fruit trees into espaliers is a traditional way to grow fruit in small spaces, and the gardens at Stockwood have some beautiful examples of trained trees. Join community gardener in residence Konni Deppe for a hands-on workshop focused on summer pruning techniques.

During the workshop, you’ll learn:

  • theory of general fruit tree growth and types of trained forms
  • which tools to use and how to keep them clean and sharp
  • when and how to prune
  • how to consider the tree-health holistically

Hands-on practice:

Apply your new skills directly on the trained apple trees in Stockwood’s historic garden.

What to bring:

  • pruning gloves (we have spares if needed)
  • a mid-morning snack and drink
  • weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, and a sun hat if it’s hot

All tools are provided. Feel free to bring your own secateurs or pruning saw, if preferred

Adults only. Limited to 6 participants.
