Who Are You Really?
Who Are You…Really? is an intimate, immersive video installation exploring identity, belonging and the experiences that make us who we are. At the heart of the project is a growing collection of filmed interviews with real people.
Beginning with the diverse communities of Luton, participants have been invited to sit in front of the camera and consider a deceptively simple question: Who are you…really?
Their answers form the centrepiece of a portable installation that transforms a 3m x 3m structure into an unexpected, intimate environment. Rather than encountering the film on a traditional gallery screen, audiences step out of the public space around them and into a private, bedroom-inspired world.
Warm lamps, fairy lights, photographs, fabrics, mirrors and the familiar clutter of a lived-in room surround the audience as they sit with the voices and faces of people from the local community.
Audiences are invited to enter, watch, listen and stay for as long as they wish.
The experience asks them not simply to observe the people on screen, but to consider the same questions themselves… Who are they...really?
This installation is designed to provide low-barrier access to local stories, local people and the arts.
