My Father’s Shadow + Short Film
Director: Akinola Davies Jr. / 2025 / UK-Nigeria / Duration: 93mins
Set in the pulsating heat of Lagos, during Nigeria’s tumultuous 1993 election, My Father’s Shadow paints an absorbing, tender, and lyrical portrait of the father and son bond.
Told through the eyes of siblings Akin and Remi, played beautifully by real life brothers Godwin and Chibuike Egbo, the film follows the brothers as they spend the day with their father Folarin, in a majestic performance from Sope Dirisu.
Weaving deep feelings, secrets, longing, and love, into it’s vibrant tapestry, the film paints Lagos with vibrant colours, tastes, smells and sounds, in ways rarely seen on screen.
We are incredibly proud to bring Akinola Davies Jr.s breathtaking multi-award winning feature length debut film to the Hat Factory Arts Centre, and it is a film you won’t want to miss.
