Meet CLOD: Oh How To Do Magazines Now!
Meet CLOD: Oh How To Do Magazines Now!
Meet the makers of Clod Magazine
Join us at Hat Works for a special evening with the writers and makers of Clod Magazine, the long-running Luton-based independent publication currently featured in the exhibition “See-Pages”.
Approaching their 40th anniversary in 2027, Clod Magazine have built an extraordinary archive of more than 1,800 pages, spanning semi-satirical and semi-fictional editions of Clod, Fold magazine, Luton Haiku, manifestoes, photo-books, box-sets, short stories, blogs, limericks, poetic opuses and other printed oddities.
For this event, Clod writers will reveal how their particular form of “magazineship” works: how to make magazines, how to keep making them, and how to survive the strange mix of inspiration, deadlines, budgets, design choices, pricing, marketing, pseudonyms, success, failure and notebooks that independent publishing demands.
The evening will include a music introduction from one of the Clod DJs, followed by a presentation exploring the many aspects of making magazines the Clod way.
Expect thoughts, philosophies and practical reflections on:
pricing, content, pseudonyms, inspiration, marketing, designing, awards, budgets, the importance of notebooks, exhibiting, deadlines, success and/or failure, and how to love Luton.
This is a chance to hear directly from one of Luton’s most distinctive independent publishing projects, ask questions, and explore the Long Gallery exhibition with the people behind the pages.
