Meet the Artist: Shaun Armstrong
As part of our Creative Ecosystem, The Culture Trust Luton invites artists engaged in the Hat District to talk about their practice and their connection to the emerging Cultural Quarter.
Shaun Armstrong is the official documentary photographer for The Culture Trust’s Hat District capital project. His role is to artistically observe and capture the changing state of the factory spaces, from abandoned and neglected to refurbished and vibrant ecosystem and all the stages in between.
Since the beginning of 2018 he has built a library of images that cover the literal spaces, their external environment, the work and workers in progress and throughout has sought aesthetic beauty in the shapes and textures of built details, from bricks and wood, to decay to walls. All images are shot as found in natural light in a reportage style and a selection were exhibited as “These Walls Tell Stories” in The Storefront, Luton in December 2018.
In addition to sharing the stories behind images from the project, Shaun will be discussing his varied career journey and how that shapes and informs both his artistic and commercial work and personal development.
