Kadam Pulse Dance Takeover
The Hat Factory hosts some of the UK most celebrated South Asian dancers and performers including Shane Shambhu, Amina Khayyam Dance Company, Kali Chandrasegaram, Bisakha Sarker, and DJ Ritu.
Join Kadam Dance, publishers of the online publication Pulse, for an exploration and celebration of dance, featuring live performance, film, exhibition, workshops and industry networking - topped off with a hip shaking Bollywood party hosted by pioneering international turntablist DJ Ritu (BBC, Club Kali, WOMAD).
The Kadam Pulse Dance Take Over is the culmination of the Banyan Tree project, which traces the growth and flourishing of South Asian dance in the UK from 2000-2020. The ‘Take Over’ programme is chance for new and emerging artists to hear direct from those at the top their game, and a space for curious audiences to find out what’s new and what’s next in this globally celebrated dance genre.
The ticket price (£7 / £5) covers the full day. Workshop numbers are limited and attendees can sign up for spaces between 11:00 – 11:15, before the first session. Don't forget to add your lunch to the basket at check out.

Altered Skin (BBC, Royal Opera House, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company)
Shane is the Creative Director of multilingual theatre company, Altered Skin. He is an award-winning choreographer, Birmingham REP Foundry Alumni, Artistic Associate of CAT Yuva Gati and currently Artist-In-Residence at DanceXchange, where he created and curates UNLEASHED, an international event and performance series that forms part of Birmingham International Dance Festival.
Amina Khayyam Dance Company (Yerma, A Thousand Faces, Slut)
Amina Khayyam Dance Company is a professional international touring dance–theatre company that uses the south Asian form Kathak as the core narrative in making new work in collaboration with the marginalised female voice, adding to it other media and forms such as theatre, live art, and technology.
Bisakha Sarker
Bisakha Sarker MBE, is an independent artist and Artistic Director of Chaturangan. She has produced and delivered several pieces, experiences and workshops for people living with dementias and believes culturally diverse dance to be an integral part of the social and cultural fabric of 21st century British culture. Through her work, Bisakha continues the search for a style which embraces the demands of a body changing with time.
Kali Chandrasgaram
Kali is a South Asian Classical and Contemporary dancer and choreographer. He received the Choreographic Development Award (2009) from Arts Council and Akademi South Asian Dance UK, and The Lisa Ullmann Dance Scholarship (2003). He has been a dance artist and choreographer for Chaturangan Dance Company, Liverpool; InDance Toronto, Canada; Shane Shambhu Dance Company; and Nilima Devi Dance Company.
DJ Ritu (BBC, Club Kali, WOMAD)
DJ Ritu, is the voice behind the UK’s definitive global music show, A World in London. Her 33 year career includes two decades at the BBC, co-founding cult label Outcaste Records, and touring in over 35 countries as a band-leader and solo artist. A musical chameleon, Ritu’s eclectic repertoire encompasses Pop, soul, disco, as well as ‘world’ genres, making her a firm favourite at prime venues & festivals like WOMAD, Roskilde, Sfinks, Tate Britain, Spiritland, and The Royal Festival Hall.
