Story of One, Story of Many

A high energy Kathak piece featuring the cyclic phenomenon of south Asian classical arts and philosophy – where there is no beginning or end; incorporating Nritta (pure dance) and Nritya (expression of narrative) to capture the first beat of a time cycle and nest it until it becomes the ‘one’ again.

Choreographed by Amina Khayyam with Kathak composition collaboration with Debasish Mukherjee, and accompanied by live music featuring table and cello, three Kathak dancers weave individual stories of migrants tarnished by media and politicians for cheap exploitation, spreading fear for those risking their lives to make a better future.

Story of One, Story of Many is a variation of AKDC’s critically acclaimed production ONE performed solo by Amina Khayyam that has toured extensively since 2010.

As a hymn to how we ought to change for our migrants this was elegiac… Khayyam’s performance was, one to gaze at with unremitting awe… the Cello, at its most contemplative….. singing was, without any shadow of any doubt the most haunting I have heard for some time.
