This month, we're shining a spotlight on Faye Munroe, a Luton-based ceramic artist whose work explores form, texture and the stories we carry through our heritage and experiences.

Faye first discovered clay while studying Visual and Creative Studies and has been exploring its possibilities ever since. Working in ceramics, she creates distinctive three-dimensional pieces that bring together layered narratives, symbolism and personal meaning. Her work draws on her heritage and past, creating pieces that feel both contemporary and familiar, inviting viewers to discover their own interpretations.

After completing a Foundation Degree in Three-Dimensional Design, Faye graduated in Contemporary Applied Arts, specialising in ceramics, in 2013. That same year, she became a fellow at Digswell Arts, where she remained until 2019, later serving on its Board of Trustees. Her work has since reached wider audiences, including through her participation in Casta: The Origins of Caste, an exhibition at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery that ran from September to December 2023.

For Faye, working with clay is about more than making art. In 2023, she co-founded LUGUS Ceramics C.I.C., where she is co-director. Led by local creatives, the organisation champions the therapeutic and social benefits of working with clay, creating accessible and inclusive spaces where people in Luton can come together to experiment, play and learn from local artists and trained ceramics practitioners.

LUGUS Ceramics continues to develop projects that bring creativity into the community. The organisation is currently creating sensory garden sculptures for Woodlands Secondary School, supported by funding from the Evolution Fund. Alongside her community work, Faye also undertakes individual commissions, including work for KPMG.

Based in the Craft Courtyard at Stockwood Discovery Centre, Faye is part of Luton's thriving creative community. Through both her own practice and her work with LUGUS Ceramics, she continues to explore the potential of clay to tell stories, celebrate identity and bring people together.
